Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollhaian returned home on Wednesday night from Qatar where he held talks focusing on the Gaza war and aiming to find ways to prevent the deterioration of a humanitarian crisis there.

Iran PressIran news: During his one-day trip, Amirabdollahian held talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, and the Head of Hamas’ Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh.

Iran’s top diplomat and the Hamas chief held talks before Haniyeh departed for Egypt for negotiations aimed at bringing a new ceasefire in Gaza.

The Wednesday trip was the fourth by the Iranian foreign minister to Qatar since the Gaza war broke out on October 7.

Amirabdollahian has also visited other regional countries over the past two months as part of the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic efforts to support the Palestinian people.

The UN Security Council vote on Gaza was delayed until Thursday

A twice-delayed vote in the Security Council on a resolution related to the war in Gaza faced the US's continued need for more time to change the resolution’s wording.

They have reportedly been able to soften calls for an end to the fighting in the text, but despite all this, a veto from the permanent member of the council is still possible.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel offered a week's pause in the latest captive release negotiations.

Wall Street citing an Egyptian official, reported the offer would be in exchange for the release of 40 captives held in Gaza. That would include all of the remaining women and children, as well as elderly men in need of medical care.

The week-long pause would include a break in ground and air operations in Gaza and would allow more aid to enter the enclave. Hamas officials are demanding a two-week pause, the official told the newspaper.

The report comes as Israeli and Hamas officials are in Cairo in the latest effort to reach a captive release deal. The official said the indirect talks for the first time also include the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, which also took captives during the October 7 attacks.
